World Museum Day

The Acropolis Museum, Athens

Its amazing transparent glass floor provides a walk over history, with a view of the #ArchaeologicalExcavation, yielding glimpses of the objects of #AthenianLife, which are displayed in open spaces characterized by changing natural light.

State Hermitage, St. Petersburg

It has managed to acquire a spectacular collection of world art—more than three million items—spanning the years from the #StoneAge to the early #20thCentury. #Rembrandt, #Rubens, #Tiepolo, #Titian, #DaVinci, #Picasso, #Gauguin, #Cézanne, #VanGogh, and #Goya are all represented here.

The British Museum, London

It looks after the national collection of #archaeology and #ethnography—more than eight million objects ranging from prehistoric #bones to exquisite #GoldJewels including the #RosettaStone, carved in 196 B.C.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City

This is the largest museum in the #WesternHemisphere having collection of more than two million items. #EuropeanPaintings are stunning: works by #Botticelli, #Rembrandt, #Vermeer, #Degas, #Rodin, and other luminaries. The #Egyptian Collection showcases the #TombOfPerneb and #TempleOfDendur.

Musée d’Orsay

 It is housed in #BeauxArtsRailwayStation built between 1898 and 1900. The museum holds mainly #FrenchArt, including #paintings, #sculptures, #furniture, and #photography. It houses the largest collection of #ImpressionistAndPost-Impressionist masterpieces in the world.

The Prado, Madrid, Spain

The building that today houses the #MuseoNacionalDelPrado, was constructed to house the #NaturalHistoryCabinet, by orders of #KingCharlesIII.  Prado displays superb works by #SpanishMasters such as #Velázquez, #ElGrecoAndGoya, but has wonderful #Italian and #Flemish collections.

This #DutchNationalTreasure has #GoldenAge masterpieces by  #Ruysdael, #Rembrandt, #Vermeer, #FransHals alongside centuries’ worth of fine #furniture, #Delftware, #costume and jewellery.

Van Gogh Museum

#QueenJuliana opened the museum in 1973 which is after 83 years of Van’s death. Since then it has drawn visitors from every corner of the world. Today along with Vincent’s work, the museum also exhibits artists around 1900, in particular, seized enthusiastically on the techniques of etching, woodcut and lithography.
